  1. USPS. I tried to find some option on Amazon to get a refund or something, but really it's my fault for not being there (or the postal people's fault, for leaving the package, instead of making sure I got it). I paid with a credit card, do you think that would make it insured?

  2. That's pretty bad form on the part of the postal worker to just leave the package out. Is there no parcel box to put larger packages when they don't fit in the regular mailbox? If the item was sold direct from amazon then I would just report it undelivered, they'll usually just send you a new one no problem. If it was from amazon marketplace then you're probably out of luck.

I'd really like to see the look on the crook's face when they opened the box expecting an ipod or something and they find a multimeter. They probably tried to stick a pair of headphones in the 10A lead jack.

  3. Sadly, we live in a very small town, so the postal worker SHOULD be able to leave packages out (and does all the time!) I've never had anything like this happen. It was Amazon Marketplace, so I think I'm out of luck.

I agree that it would have been hilarious to see the thief's face when they open the package and it's a DMM. He or she probably went "What the hell is THAT thing?!"
